The Lockdown – Day 12: April Fool’s Day

1st April 2020 – Wednesday


We are on day 12 of hibernation … ahem  … I mean self-isolation, lockdown whatever you want to call it. I am actually ok with not going out right now. I love being at home anyway so it doesn’t bother me so much. Hubby is feeling bored and antsy. He is not use to staying indoors for this amount of time. We are actually polar opposites … he is the outdoor type, always likes to socialise and has to go out at least once a day. He just can’t stay at home, he says it gives him a headache. Whereas, I can stay home for days on end and not see or speak to anyone. I just like my own company I guess.

The weather has turned a little chilly so the kids did not go out to play in the front yard or even the garden today. I’m hoping the sun will shine and the weather will get a bit warmer soon.


I spoke to my sister-in-law today and she told me that unfortunately they have come to the decision to have their dog Bert put down, it’s happening tomorrow. I actually feel really sad about that. I’m not a dog lover … or even an animal lover at all, but I do have a soft spot for Bert. Bert has been in the family for 10 years and he is now not doing so good. He’s getting old, has diabetes and is going blind. I remember when I first met Bert as a puppy, I use to make my sister-in-law lock him in the kitchen because I just couldn’t bare to have him around me. Then slowly over time I got use to him being around and now he doesn’t bother me. Bert is not the jumpy type of dog that will jump all over you and lick your face etc. He’s quite a chilled out canine and just minds his own business. I never thought I would say this … but I will miss him. R.I.P Bert!

Home schooling was good. The kids are getting use to the routine and just get on with it now. I try and cover a little maths, english and science during the day. I do find it hard to commit to a 9am to 3pm routine though because there is so much to do around the house and there are only so many hours in the day. But I’m coping the best I can. Hubby has no patience to home tutor so he has left that responsibility to me. Great stuff!

For dinner I reheated some left over food from yesterday and also made Peking pork with red peppers. I order this dish alot when I am eating dinner in a Chinese restaurant. It’s kind of a sweet and sour dish with pan fried pork pieces. I also stir fried some vegetables … got to eat your veggies.


I hope you are all doing well and making the best out of these unusual circumstances. Coronavirus cases are increasing by the day … what more is there to say on that subject?
