I made this cute little small birthday cake for a friend’s birthday.
It may seem that my friend is really into nature and maybe a bit of a country bumpkin, but that is not the case. I just really wanted to make this cake.
There are alot of variations of tree trunk cakes online, but this particular version is slightly more time consuming. It was worth the effort.
This is a chocolate cake, buttercream and covered in ganache. For the tree trunk texture, I individually rolled out litte brown pieces of brown fondant. They are rolled and slightly flattened until it resembles diffrerent size slug shapes. I stuck these on individually and randomly. Using a butter knife I scored the little “slugs” just to give it some texture.
I added fresh flowers and berries to the tree trunk to make it look like they were growing out of the trunk.
The most difficult part of this cake was my little woodland friend – the fox.
It took me quite a while to make him. It was either too big or too small. But he (or she) turned out really cute.
This cake was small (just a 6″) but the smaller the cakes I find them so much cuter.
Until next week …
