Noah’s Ark Cake

I made this cake a while ago and is one of my favourite cakes so I thought I’d share it with you.

It was the first time I had ever made this themed cake so it was a learning curve for me.

I pre-made the little animals about a week in advance to allow it to harden and set. In cakes with this style, I didn’t need to make the whole animal … only the head was needed for each animal so it took alot of pressure of making them.

The bottom tier was a regular 4 layered vanilla sponge. The ark itself started out as a chocolate sponge. I then had to carve it into the shape of a boat then covered it with fondant. I found this particular difficult because I always get scared when I have to carve cake. If I over carve then I wouldn’t be able to fix it … and I didn’t make a back up! Eeeeek!

How cute are my little animals.

I was really happy with the way it turned out. For my first attempt … it was not bad at all. It was quite heavy so I made sure I secured it with plenty of dowling rods. Making cakes in the summer is always a risk, particularly if buttercream is involved.

More cake gallery sharing next week.
